About

The Blog:

This blog began on the Hollymoor estate of Northfield in South Birmingham UK. Right on the edge of the B31 postcode area,  Hollymoor  is a residential and business area developed on the site of the old Hollymoor Hospital, a psychiatric hospital closed in 1995 and now almost completely demolished.

This blog covers issues, events, people, groups, news, local history, creative arts and other points of interest on the Hollymoor Estate and the wider surrounding area of Northfield, Longbridge, and the rest of the B31 postcode area of Birmingham. Rubery,  Rednal and other surrounding areas are included.

The area is part of the suburban sprawl of England’s second city, on the Worcestershire border. Formerly a rural village, the town of Northfield has been heavily developed during the 20th century.  Longbridge is reknowned as being the home of MG Rover and, since its takeover and closure of the majority of the plant five years ago, is undergoing a multimillion pound redevelopment program, aimed at improving the area and providing employment.

The B31 postcode of Birmingham borders with the B45 postcode which includes towns and villages in both the West Midlands and Worcestershire, including Rubery, Rednal, Cofton Hackett and Frankley. The Lickey Hills and Waseley Hills Country Parks are in this area. The very close proximity of these areas to the blog’s base will mean that these areas will also probably feature quite frequently.

We hope to uncover the beauty of the area and discover some wonderful people and projects along the way.
