Residents Evacuated During Rubery Fire
12 JulResidents of Sandstone Avenue, off Cock Hill Lane in Rubery were evacuated from their homes in the early hours of Sunday morning, following a gorse fire on waste ground on the site of an old quarry.
The area of waste ground is a gorse covered hill and lies between Cock Hill Lane and Great Park.
Donato of Rubery tweeted at around 2am: “Fire Brigade are now on the scene. I have never seen flames so high in the sky! Scary stuff and I’m about half a mile away”
It took around forty firefighters approximately three of hours to get the flames under control and residents of Sandstone avenue were moved from their homes as a precaution.
The police helicopter was spotted around the area on Sunday afternoon after it appears another small fire broke out.
